Rice is more than just a staple in the Philippines; it’s an integral part of our culture, traditions, and daily life. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a snack, you’ll find rice on our tables. Here are some fascinating aspects of rice in Filipino cuisine:

.Sinaing: This is our everyday boiled rice, but when paired with other Filipino dishes, it transforms into something extraordinary. We’ve all mastered the art of cooking it without a rice cooker—just level it out, place your index finger on the surface, and add enough water to reach that first line or knuckle. Simple yet comforting.

.Sinangag (Garlic Fried Rice): A favorite side dish, sinangag takes plain rice to new heights. The magic lies in the fragrant garlic that elevates the flavor. It’s simple, satisfying, and pairs beautifully with various viands.

Tutong (Burnt Rice): Yes, even burnt rice has its place! Crispy and slightly charred, tutong is a delightful treat. Some of us intentionally let a layer of rice stick to the bottom of the pot just to enjoy this crunchy goodness.

.Bahaw (Leftover Rice): Waste not, want not! Bahaw refers to leftover rice, which we creatively repurpose. It might become fried rice, congee, or even a base for savory toppings.

.Lugaw (Plain Congee): Lugaw is our version of rice porridge. It’s soothing, especially when seasoned with a touch of ginger and topped with crispy garlic bits. Perfect for rainy days or when you need comfort food.

.Arroz Caldo (Chicken Rice Porridge): Similar to lugaw, arroz caldo adds chicken and saffron for extra flavor. It warms the soul and is often enjoyed during chilly evenings.
